GHMC poll violence: Cops book Owaisi brothers
An all-party delegation led by Opposition leader K Jana Reddy, which met the Governor and submitted a memorandum, also demanded an inquiry into the incidents of attacks on some of the Opposition leaders during Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls on Tuesday. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and MIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi reached there, which escalated tension between the two groups. Situation worsens after they were taken in to police custody.
The case was registered under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 506 read with 149 of the IPC.
Cases against Mr Owaisi and others were registered late last night under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police also booked Akbaruddin Owaisi, MIM leader in the Telangana assembly, for the alleged attack on a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jangammet division, also in the old city.
“Strongly condemn the dastardly attack on Telengana PCC President Uttam Reddy and Ex Minister Shabbir Ali by Asad Owaisi and his goons”. Ali alleged he sustained injury below the right eye and on other body parts.
Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy reviewed the cases booked against MIM leaders in connection with various incidents of violence.
He asked as to why Asaduddin Owaisi came to Mir Chowk Police Station when no MIM workers or supporters were kept in police custody.
He asked as to why police authorities failed to notice of movement of Asaduddin Owaisi with the gang of over 200 “Goondas” in the hundreds of CC Cameras which they have installed. He demanded stern action against all the policemen who failed to prevent the attack and also against those who allowed MIM to do “rowdism” in the Old City on polling day.
