Dallas Police release statement on Johnny Manziel incident

Police are investigating a possible altercation between Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and his ex-girlfriend, who attends TCU.

Fort Worth officers responded to a call at an apartment around 2 a.m. regarding a possible assault, according to police.

After the women expressed concern for the well-being of Manziel, officers tried to reach him by calling his cell phone and checking locations within their jurisdiction.

In that incident, Manziel was driving at a high rate of speed and passed cars on the shoulder before police were called, according to the police report.

The preliminary investigation came to the conclusion that a possible assault had occurred in that jurisdiction or multiple jurisdictions.

“Twitter was rife with comments regarding Manziel and Saturday’s incident with some users criticizing the quarterback for excess partying, while others asserted the Browns should cut ties with the 23 year old National Football League player, stating, “…He needs to know what rock bottom feels like”. An NFL spokesman says the league is looking into the matter. An ambulance was called, but she was not taken to a hospital.

Employees and a customer at Planet Hollywood reported seeing Manziel eating and playing blackjack at the casino on the Saturday night back in early January.

Fort Worth police said the use of their helicopter was within guidelines and not influenced by Manziel’s status as a sports and public figure.

“I think Johnny made progress on the field past year”.

“This is Peyton’s fourth one – certainly could be his last one, so we’re going to try to enjoy it”, Archie Manning, who lives in New Orleans, said this week in an interview with The Associated Press.

This marks the latest time that the quarterback, a Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M University and first-round draft pick with the Browns, has had a run-in with the law.

New Browns head coach Hue Jackson, per a source cited by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, has made it clear internally that he doesn’t want Manziel to be his starting quarterback.

Recently, Manziel was seen in a Fort Worth liquor store earlier this month, less than a year after he entered an alcohol and drug treatment center. Soon after, he suffered a concussion and did not attend the team’s season final game. I think that’s undeniable. He missed no practice time and took all but 10 of the team’s offensive snaps this season. Word had spread through social media that Manziel had been spotted in a Las Vegas casino the previous night.
