Jeb Bush’s son asks MI backers for campaign help
Before he can try to do that, though, Rubio will have to fend off challenges from three governors who barely registered among Iowa Republicans but have dedicated most of their energy and cash to reaching New Hampshire’s maverick voters.
‘If Rubio beats him badly in New Hampshire, Jeb is toast, ‘ said Sen Lindsey Graham, a former presidential contender himself, who left the race and put his endorsement behind Bush. Now as both of their attentions turn to New Hampshire, the two will be struggling to make inroads against current establishment favorite Rubio (he came in third in Iowa behind Texas Senator Ted Cruz and businessman Donald Trump). An independent running for the Democratic nomination, he surprised the presumed front-runner, Hillary Clinton, with a strong appeal to young voters and the party’s liberal wing.
Trump came in second behind Cruz in Monday’s leadoff Iowa caucuses – which he had previously described on Twitter as a “long-shot great finish”.
“Obama is a gifted and extraordinary speaker, but he is not a leader”, said Bush. “But if Donald Trump continues to lead Florida by 20 points, you could see the bulk of resources dedicated to Ohio”. Bush had a poor showing in Iowa on Monday, placing sixth among Republican candidates with 2.8 percent of the votes.
Kasich says Clinton would be a “strong candidate” in the fall election and Republican “better have somebody that can unite”. The state’s size also would seem advantageous to someone like Trump, who gets plenty of free media coverage and has money to buy more. He garnered more than 50,000 votes – fewer than the total population of one Iowa state senate district, but enough to win the Republican presidential caucus. “Not that many candidates have that kind of money”. Rick Santorum finished second to last.
“Everybody is weighing and balancing what they know now that they didn’t know 10 months ago, and I think that the person who gets closest to me is a Rubio”, Sessions said. “I just wonder what they were doing Friday, Saturday and Sunday (in Iowa)”.
Jeb Bush speaks to a group at the Margate Wednesday night. We have not seen the end of him yet.
At a town hall in Bow, N.H., on Sunday evening, Kasich said that he chose to campaign in New Hampshire because residents of the Granite State are “the best screeners on the nation” for who should be president. By the time he ran for president in 1980, the conservative moment had moved farther west and farther right by electing Ronald Reagan, whom Bush would eventually succeed after eight years as vice president.
