Cruz ‘Illegally Stole’ Iowa Caucus Win
So how did Ted Cruz supposedly steal the election?
In the hours after the Iowa caucus, Donald Trump was courteous and somewhat subdued in his concession speech and tweeted a string of surprisingly reflective explanations for his second-place finish there. Instead, he lost to Cruz by four points, and beat Rubio by just one.
The ad, with the header, “A Message from the People Who Know Jeb and Marco Best”, says voters have a chance “to reset the race for the Republican nomination” by supporting “a trusted conservative who can defeat Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton”.
Cruz, with his ultra-professional campaign and smooth stump style, brought home a huge triumph.
Caucuses, a series of meetings in which voters show their support for candidates, determine who becomes each party’s presidential candidate. However, Trump later admitted to Fox News that a weak grassroots operation in the state may have cost him first place. But when you’re the presumptive nominee and you’re running against a rumpled but loveable socialist, anything close to a tie is far from a victory.
Trump has been leading the Republican polls in New Hampshire, which has historically favored more moderate candidates than Iowa. “Now suddenly they’re very interested in more debates”.
There will be a Democratic debate on Thursday night and Republicans will debate on Saturday. That’s important because it seems the GOP race will come down to two factors.
For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton was seeking to turn a narrow victory in Iowa over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders into some momentum for her shaken Democratic campaign.
Trump tweeted that “during primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz”.
“After thorough reporting – and analysis – of results, there is no uncertainty and Secretary Clinton has clearly won the most national and state delegates”, her campaign said in a statement. “Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and SC, our campaign updated the grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story”.
“What kind of people do we have running for office?” the billionaire businessman said at a campaign event in Milford, New Hampshire. “But we feel fantastic”.
