Tributes paid to Derry City’s Mark Farren
Although the treatment undoubtedly improved Farren’s quality of life in his final months, it ultimately proved unsuccessful, with Derry City confirming his death in a statement on Tuesday morning.
After a battle with cancer, Farren passed away aged 33, and the club will pay tribute to him by retiring his shirt number.
Many people took to social media to express their sympathies with his wife Terri-Louise and family. “My thoughts with Terri- Louise & their families”.
His funeral Mass will be held in St Mary’s Church, Ballybrack, Co Donegal, tomorrow, and he will be laid to rest beside his children – Terri, Marlie and Millie – who tragically died in 2014 shortly after their premature birth.
“They have come from all of those who have known of his great footballing career as an iconic star for Derry City FC”, he said.
Flags were flown at half-mast at the Football Association of Ireland headquarters on Wednesday.
Back in May, Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill and his Republic of Ireland counterpart Martin O’Neill led teams in a friendly to give Farren a send-off as he headed to Mexico for treatment.
