Junior Galette of New Orleans Saints passes physical, expects to be released
The New Orleans Saints released Junior Galette on Friday, and the 27-year-old linebacker does not appear to be handling the divorce very well.
The Saints were waiting for Galette to pass the physical to make the move official since he tore a pectoral muscle in the weight room this summer. Several unnamed team sources confirmed the defensive captain’s erratic behavior, saying he fought with his teammates and was perceived as lazy by his peers after signing a four-year, $41.5 million extension with New Orleans last September. But he fell out of favor with Saints management as last season went on – then sealed his fate with two allegations of violence against women this offseason. Galette was also arrested on domestic battery charges in January, but those charges were dismissed in February.
Galette’s attorney, Ralph Whalen, told media outlets that there is no proof his client is the person in the video. In the report, Galette is described as a poor teammate who “thought being captain was more so about status on the team instead of being a leader on and off the field”, according to one source. As for on the field, the Saints will zero in on how to replace Galette’s production more than anything else. “Sad”, one teammate said. Nola.com also mentions that he played through a broken toe for much of last season.
