Heat rebound to beat Mavs 93-90
With the Miami Heat not shooting great against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday – outside of Chris Bosh, that is, and he still went 0-for from beyond the arc – it helped that Hassan Whiteside had a huge game off the bench.
But those fans had to eat their words after Raymond Felton’s missed 3-pointer in the final seconds allowed Miami to escape with a 93-90 win.
After matching the worst shooting half of his career in the first 24 minutes against Dallas, Dwyane Wade missed his first shot of the third quarter.
The Heat ar more thn capable of winning this game, but they’re coming off a Tuesday loss in which they played zero defense.
The Heat worked the ball around and Chris Bosh, who had 20 points, found Luol Deng with a pass in the right corner for an open 3-pointer that made it 92-87 with a minute to go. Nowitzki hit a shot from Waco with about 17 seconds left that made it just a two point margin, and you kind of had a feeling that something special might happen when Dwyane Wade rimmed out a second free throw.
“It’s a tough stretch and one of the tougher ones I’ve ever seen, but we’ve got to dust everything off”, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle admitted following Monday’s loss. “I thought we had time to get a good three or a two and foul, and it didn’t work out”.
Chandler Parsons scored nine of Dallas’ first 11 points of the game(assisting on the other basket), a little over three minutes into play. “The Heat could (wink-wink) promise Wade that it would take care of him with a bigger salary in 2017-18 (when the cap is projected to rise to $108 million) and in 2018-19 ($127 million projection)”. Center Zaza Pachulia had 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Felton and guard J.J. Barea each had 11 points. The 13-year veteran had 21 double-doubles with Atlanta in 2005-06.
Hassan Whiteside catalyst in tight Miami Heat win in Dallas: Hassan Whiteside’s sudden celebrity, at times, still comes as a surprise.
Nowitzki had gone the three previous games without making a three-pointer, going 15-of-38 from the field over that same stretch.
Heat: At Charlotte on Friday. And while looking to bounce back Wednesday at home against the Miami Heat, the Mavs hope to display their resolve as a team before a back-to-back against Southwest Division rivals San Antonio and Memphis.
Playing the last five games minus sixth man Devin Harris due to a sprained left great toe, the Mavericks have been forced to take the floor without one of their better perimeter defenders. The contest, which is scheduled to tip off shortly after 7:00 pm ET, will be broadcast live locally on Fox Sports Sun.
