Team Irvin outlasts Team Rice in Pro Bowl 49-27

Prior to the Pro Bowl game on Sunday, ESPN aired an inspiring feature of a football player’s journey from the projects of Miami to the NFL. Team Irvin led 49-21 at that point. He threw touchdown passes of 14 and 2 yards to Atlanta Falcons teammates Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman, respectively, in the opening quarter.

Team Irvin got into the end zone before halftime on a 2-yard pass from Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to Eagles running back Darren Sproles. Berry is the 13th VFL to earn trips to four Pro Bowls (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 seasons).

Wide receiver Jarvis Landry played for Team Rice and recorded three receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown.

The game was dominated by passing as the two teams combined for over 900 yards through the air, 10 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.

“Obviously it sucks to not be in the Super Bowl“, Wilson said during a televised in-game interview, according to the Seattle Times. His Team Irvin and Seahawks teammate Michael Bennett, who had the game’s only sack, was chosen the defensive MVP.

Team Rice also had Bills representitive linemen Richie Incognito and Eric Wood. Last year Team Irving beat Team Carter 32-28 in a game both closer and lower scoring than most games in the old format. Berry, who was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America, made an inspiring return to football after beating cancer. Walker caught three passes for 80 yards and a score, while Hopkins added 71 yards and a touchdown on three catches from the quarterbacks of Team Irvin.

Team Rice selected Eli Manning to run the offense together with backups Derek Carr and Tyrod Taylor.

The only negative to the game was the injury to tight end Tyler Eifert, who left the game in a walking boot with a foot injury after injuring himself while diving for a catch. Two years ago, the final score was 22-21. He was escorted by his two young sons off the field to rousing cheers from the fans that remained.

The Indianapolis Colts didn’t make a big impression in Sunday night’s Pro Bowl.
