Health officials want more Zika samples, data from Brazil

The two unrelated cases in Brazil may be the first of people contracting Zika via blood transfusions in the current outbreak, though the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with other health bodies, have said that Zika could be spread via blood transfusions.

The patient has reported that they had sexual contact with another infected individual who recently visited a country where the Zika virus is present, according to the Dallas County Health and Human Services.

The person had not travelled to infected areas but their partner had returned from Venezuela.

The Zika virus became a major concern for public health authorities after it was connected with a massive increase in cases of microcephaly in Latin America. The World Health Organization (WHO), which declared a public health emergency, says the virus has been transmitted in at least 32 countries, from South America to the Western Pacific.

Colombia is one of a number of South American countries which have been affected by the outbreak.

Here’s why: Researchers think what happens with Zika will be similar to what’s happened with other mosquito-borne diseases in the USA like dengue and chikungunya, both which have been locally, periodically transmitted in southern parts of the country, but haven’t ever turned into a nationwide problem.

The specific type of mosquitoes that spread Zika virus are aggressive daytime biters, prefer to bite people, and live indoors and outdoors near people-and they can also bite at night.

The rapid outbreak of the relatively old Zika virus has caused worldwide panic, leading many to search information on its origins and dangers.

“One of the important things to know is that this is just one case”, said Kelly Crain of the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District.

“With over 20 million residents and 100 million tourists, we must stay ahead of the possible spread of the Zika virus and take immediate action to ensure Florida is prepared”.

Also, the Department of Health has issued a health advisory to local health departments, health care providers and hospitals to further coordinate Zika response efforts in New York State. Twenty percent will have flu-like symptoms, which may include rash, redness of the eyes, fever and joint pains.

Other potential causes are also being investigated.

“There’s no need for us to do area-wide spraying”.

Indian drugs company Bharat Biotech said it was developing the world’s first Zika vaccine and was ready to test it on animals. Essentially, there have been enough severe cases of Zika for them to be anxious.

“I call on all of you so that we can fight together against the proliferation of the mosquito which spreads zika”, the president said. The disease is known for causing developmental issues in unborn children, making it most unsafe for pregnant women. “That’s not going to be effective”, said Chalmers Vasquez, operations manager for Miami-Dade County mosquito control.
