Barack Obama criticises ‘inexcusable political rhetoric’ against Muslims in US
For most of his national political life, Obama has been been dogged by rumors that he’s a Muslim and he’s declined to visit an Islamic place of worship in the us until now.
They say that extremist violence in the the US has led people to stereotype Muslims – to assign moderates to the same category as Islamic extremists in a way that has continually distorted perceptions about the community.
President Barack Obama pressed for unity in America during his first visit to a USA mosque as the nation’s leader, telling Muslims “We are one American family”.
He decried the recent surge in Islamophobia following the Paris and San Bernardino attacks, saying, “We’ve seen children bullied, we’ve seen mosques vandalized…It’s not who we are”. This jab is likely at Trump, who says we need to ban Muslims from entering the country until we can get a better background checking system to ensure those entering our country are not terrorists. Obama said it’s easier to confront extremism by working with the Muslim community, instead of viewing all Muslims as potential threats.
“It has been a transparent strategy on the part of Republicans to play on people’s anxieties, to target religious minorities to advance their political ambition”, Earnest said. In the city of Baltimore in the US State of Maryland, he has criticized the “unforgivable” rhetoric by politicians against Muslims – and thus hardly attacked the right-wing populist Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Making light of politically charged assertions that he is a Muslim, Obama, a Christian, said that founding father Thomas Jefferson was also accused of being a Muslim.
“I don’t think there’s ever been this level of fear and apprehension in the Muslim-American community”, Hooper said.
“As we protect our country from terrorism, we should not reinforce the ideas and the rhetoric of the terrorists themselves”. “No, it’s true. Look it up”.
“In these uncertain times, some of us might find ourselves doubting where we fit in this society”, Muktar said. “Today is a new starting point”. Running through the basics of Islamic values, Obama detailed the roots the religion has in America and highlighted the accomplishments that Muslims continue to contribute to society. “They’re not defending Islam”.
