Dodge cancels unfilled ’15 Hellcat orders, doubles ’16 output
The number of Hellcats dealers receive still will be based on the total number of Dodge vehicles they sell in a given period.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will more than double production of its Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models for the 2016 model-year, officials announced on Monday.
As for the person in the driver’s seat, this is one womanhandled Charger Hellcat, with the female driver striving to get the most out of the car’s customized engine setup. FCA states it will fulfil now scheduled orders for 2015 model year cars but customers with unscheduled orders will have to wait for 2016 examples.
The good news for potential Hellcat buyers is that FCA is promising to increase output of the 707-horsepower monsters for the 2016 model year. To put that into comparison, the best quarter mile recorded by a standard Charger SRT Hellcat is 10.808 seconds. “To meet this demand, we are more than doubling our SRT Hellcat production for 2016 and simplifying the process to make it easier for our enthusiasts to get their hands on the hottest muscle cars in history”.
Dodge also is changing the way dealers receive Hellcat allocations and place orders, Kuniskis said. Dodge will begin calling customers with cancelled orders today to fill them in on their eligibility to get a voucher.
Kuniskis said he hopes the additional production – “it’s not a few more; it’s a lot more” – will address some of the high-price demands that some dealers were making for 2015 Hellcats. The 2016 cars will be pricier due to now standard “Laguna leather” (which may or may not be similar to Corinthian leather) and five years of Sirius XM service. FCA is hopeful the increase in production of the 2016 model will help make the buying process fairer. Once the dealership sells out of their allocation, they won’t be getting anymore, so they won’t be able to take orders for cars that don’t exist. The allocation and ordering will occur in two cycles, one beginning in August and the second beginning in February.
