Aldridge scores season-high 36, Spurs beat Pelicans 110-97
New Orleans Pelicans guard Norris Cole (30) drives to the basket against San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green (14) as San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard, right, gets a hand on the ball during the first half of an NBA basketball game, Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, in San Antonio.
On a night when all but one of the Spurs’ starters scored in double figures, LaMarcus Aldridge stood tallest in a 110-97 home victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. Anderson was assessed with an offensive foul.
Ginobili tumbled to the floor and remained on the court for about a minute before exiting the court holding his side and clutching a towel to his mouth.
San Antonio (41-8) won its 27th straight home game to open the season, snapping a tie with the 1977-78 Portland Trail Blazers for the best home start among Western Conference teams.
San Antonio entered the game as the league’s leading defense, but New Orleans had its way early by attacking the paint.
Kawhi Leonard also had a stellar game, finishing with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting and adding five rebounds and two blocks. It may be to safe to say that Danny has found his shot, which will be big for San Antonio going forward as their schedule gets tougher.
“I thought both of them played well”, he said. “Playing more confident and more like myself and I think that the team has fed off that energy”.
Ginobili is averaging 10.0 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds on the year.
“I don’t want to joke with that, ” Parker said. “I hope it’s Anthony Davis every game, so he can have that mindset”. They boast a deep reserve corps that also features veterans David West, Boris Diaw and Patty Mills alongside relative newcomers Kyle Anderson, Jonathon Simmons and Boban Marjanovic, and his absence figures to present an opportunity for Simmons and veteran Rasual Butler to take a larger role in Gregg Popovich’s rotation for the next few weeks. “So Anthony had to play him solo a lot of the time, whereas on our end of the floor, they doubled Anthony nearly every time he got the ball”.
Next up for the Pels, a trip back home to the Crescent City where they will host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight.
But I thought the Spurs were good enough to at least compete with the Warriors at their place.
