Trump demanded $5mn to participate in debate

Mr Donald Trump was visibly delighted about the drama unleashed by his snub of Thursday’s Republican presidential debate – taunting his rivals and host channel Fox News from a nearby charity event created to steal their thunder. The GOP candidate said that Kelly was unfair, and then tweeted that she was really off her game.

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump withdrew from the GOP debate and spoke at a rally in Des Moines. “And I wanted to do the debate, quite frankly”. At one point, Cruz even mocked Trump’s absence by joking: “Gosh, if you guys ask me one more mean question, I may have to leave the stage”.

All in all, it seemed Cruz was happy that the debate was Donald-less. The debate was held in preparation for the Iowa caucus of Feb 1, where the Republican hopefuls will slug it out among themselves to get the first victory in the party’s primary. This isn’t the first time Trump has been demanding money to appear at debates; he tried to force CNN to pay him $5 million to appear in a debate previous year. The early ratings showed Trump’s event had about a quarter of the audience of the debate.
