Celine Dion says late husband protected, grounded her
Friends and family members were on hand to honor Angelil, who died January 14 of throat cancer. The singer called him the love of her life and said she could feel his love in the room during the heartfelt memorial service. While she didn’t sing, wife Celine Dion still gave a breathtakingly loving and heart-breaking tribute speech where she praised the attendees for their arrival and reflected on the love and support that Angelil had given her over the course of her career. He was laid to rest on January 22 at Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica – the church where she and Angelil were married in 1994.
Dion last released Loved Me Back to Life in 2013, and is scheduled to remain in residency at the Caesar’s Colosseum until 2019. The “My Heart Will Go On” singer took to the stage in Las Vegas Wednesday, wowing audiences with her powerful voice thanks largely in part to her deceased beau’s “strength and warmth”.
“This is my home away from home”, Celine said. “At the same time, I’m supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home, and right now I’m not sure how strong I feel”.
According to ABC News, she added: ‘On behalf of my family, thank you again for being here with us this evening for this handsome tribute.
“We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most hard time… more than you’ll ever know”. They had sons, Rene-Charles and five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy together, while Patrick, Jean-Pierre and Anne-Marie are Angelil’s children from previous marriages.
Dion has had to endure what is likely the most frightful month this past few weeks, as not only her husband died, but her brother also died a few days later, also from cancer.
