Apple files application to sell refurbished iPhones in India
Apple might as early as 2017 implement wireless-charging technology that charges iPhones and iPads within inches or feet of a wireless charging station, eliminating the need to place a device on a charging mat, Bloomberg reported.
Unlike current wireless charging technologies that require the device to be placed on a mat or within a charging cradle, this new technology will purportedly enable wireless charging from farther away.
Apple is working on advanced wireless charging technology that could roll out as soon as 2017, according to a report in Bloomberg Business. Apple has reportedly been exploring ways to get around that, but has experienced issues such as loss of power over distance. The tech company already has scaled down version of wireless charging for its Apple Watch via induction. The standards war certainly hasn’t helped with adoption, and it typically takes longer to charge devices wirelessly than with a microUSB cable or USB-C cable, especially those phones that employ quick charging technology.
Though many of its competitors added some type of wireless charging to their smartphones, Apple never added the feature to its iPhone. According to the sources, the technology will adorn Apple’s iPhones and iPads to make it easy for its users to fight dying battery problem.
Despite the big profit announcement, Apple forecast revenue of USD$50 to USD$53 billion in the next quarter, down from USD$58 billion in the same period past year.
The report also reveals that Apple is working with partners in Asia and the United States when it comes to this technology.
If Apple does add wireless charging, it’s unlikely to remove the traditional power cord as this will still be required for connecting to a Macbook or PC. Furthermore, if we are to go along with all the rumors circulating on the internet on Apple’s latest move, not all 7 handsets will receive the dual-camera mode. Another patent highlighted aluminum phone casings that allowed radio waves to pass through, which could be used for wireless charging. Indeed, the current results were only fractionally more than the same time past year (74.5 million units sold).
