Snapdeal also snaps ties with Aamir Khan!
Online retailer Snapdeal has, reportedly, decided not to renew Bollywood actor Aamir Khan as brand ambassador for the second time. Snapdeal another brand he backs, also came under fire however they immediately issued a statement disassociating from his comment.
Snapdeal had stopped using Khan’s in its ads after the controversy broke. “When I sit in the home and discuss to Kiran, for the very first time she said, ‘Should we move out of India?’ Now that’s an extremely disastrous as well as a large comment to make to me”.
Irate consumers had downgraded Snapdeal’s app on the Google Play Store following Khan’s comments, prompting the company to distance itself from him. However, there are two views here that have been coming through in the media, one that the actor was entitled to his personal views and these should not cut into the campaigns and/or that brand ambassadors should watch what they say, and corporates should avoid signing those known for speaking their mind. “Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India”, it said on November 25. “We will continue towards our mission of creating one million successful online entrepreneurs in India”.
According to the sources, company has chose to not to renew the actor’s contract which will be getting expired soon.
In January, Khan ceased to be the ambassador for the government’s “Incredible India” tourism campaign.
A few weeks ago, Mr Khan was replaced in the government’s hugely popular and resourced Incredible India campaign, which pitches the country to tourists.
