Trump, Carson accuse Cruz of cheating in Iowa
If Trump can get a win in New Hampshire it may help him regain his momentum, but if Cruz can get a second win in a major area it may spell the end for many candidates.
His first tweet actually claimed that Cruz “illegally” stole Iowa, but he has since deleted that language: now he accuses Cruz of just plain ol’ stealing (his lawyers must be quick on the Twitter trigger).
“In retrospect, we could have done much better with the ground game”, Trump said, in an apparent slight to his Iowa state director Chuck Laudner.
Trump also hit Cruz over a provocative mailer the senator’s campaign had sent some voters in Iowa. “Many people voted for Cruz over Carson because of this Cruz fraud”, Trump tweeted.
Carson tried to clear up any confusion later Monday night, saying he planned to return to the campaign trail in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
He said the Iowa caucus results were surprising all around. Iowa was an vast win for Bernie Sanders, who is now leading in the New Hampshire polls by more than 30 points, according to the Huffington Post.
Republican US presidential candidates Ben Carson and Donald Trump are emerging as sore losers after Ted Cruz, a US senator from Texas, won the Iowa caucuses, the first step in the party’s process of picking a nominee.
Rubio, who finished a close third behind Trump in Monday night’s caucus, wasn’t spared from the renewed wrath of Trump.
Before Trump’s tweets on Wednesday, Cruz apologized to Carson for the action attributed to one of its staffers, identified as Spence Rogers.
Trump also called Cruz a “nasty guy” and said “nobody likes him”, noting that his colleagues in the Senate have not endorsed him for president. Polls done before the Iowa caucuses showed him with a large lead.
The network’s reporting-that Carson would make a trip to Florida before resuming his campaign-came as voters in Iowa were preparing to make the first solid votes of the 2016 campaign.
“And finally, Cruz strongly told thousands of caucusgoers (voters) that Trump was strongly in favor of ObamaCare and “choice” – a total lie!” Only Marco Rubio has the chance of getting the votes of those in the Republican Party who call themselves “somewhat conservative”, “moderate” and “mainstream conservative”.
