Louisville Announces Postseason Ban for Men’s Basketball
The Courier Journal is reporting that The University of Louisville plans to announce a self-imposed post season ban on the men’s basketball team for the 2015-2016 campaign.
“As I told [the players] the penalty they all just stood up and started holding Damion and Trey as they cried”, Pitino said.
“We found out yesterday that we had a problem”, Athletic Director Tom Jurich said, talking about when he learned the extent of the violations.
Pitino told a story about his old Kentucky teams and how the Kentucky fans embraced the players who couldn’t make an NCAA Tournament run.
Louisville is now enduring an NCAA investigation that was brought on by the allegations of a self-described madam, who wrote a book last fall detailing numerous alleged incidents with paid dancers and escorts who involved themselves with former Louisville basketball players and recruits from 2010-2014. Both players came into the program this offseason as graduate transfers.
What’s more, they are fresh off an upset of No. 2 North Carolina on Monday that propelled Rick Pitino’s team to second place in the ACC at 7-2 and a game behind the 8-1 Tar Heels.
The NCAA is investigating Powell’s claims.
Even though this is breaking news, the ACC is already prepared for this situation had Syracuse self impose a postseason ban a year ago that prevented them from playing in the ACC and NCAA tournaments.
