How to Order an Uber from the Amazon Echo
Now you’ll have even more fun with it if you have a Spotify Premium account, since the music streaming giant announced today that you can now connect the two so that you can play your Spotify music whenever you’re in the range of your Echo. Users can even request Uber’s specific services, such as Uber X and Uber SUV, or, oddly enough, they can just ask Alexa to get them a taxi, and an Uber driver will still show up.
If you don’t have an Amazon Echo, it looks like a simple black speaker but it’s actually a virtual assistant akin to Siri or Google Now – except this is always on and always listening.
Amazon seems to be on roll this week with adding new capabilities to its Echo smart home speaker.
Uber support is now integrated with Amazon Echo, enabling you to order an Uber ride by saying “Alexa, order me an Uber” or a similar statement.
The Amazon Echo was launched in late 2014 for Prime members and a select group of invitees and became widely available last June. You can use the smartphone app to order a vehicle or food delivery. NOTE: You will need to make sure Alexa knows your home address.
Amazon is a behemoth in both physical music sales and downloading, with the company the second most popular site after Apple’s iTunes to buy digital music. It’ll be interesting to see what Amazon adds next to the Echo, perhaps the ability to get you coffee in the morning.
Amazon said Thursday that its Echo wireless system will play songs from Spotify as the retail giant delves further into the booming sector of streaming.
To enable the Uber integration, Echo users can set their location in the “Settings” section of the Alexa App and enable the Uber skill in the “Skills” section of the app to link an Uber account.
