Johnny Manziel allegedly struck girlfriend, threatened to kill them both
According to a report released in Fort Worth, Texas, Manziel’s ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley said Manziel had struck her “several times” on Saturday night.
Colleen Crowley told police that Manziel began acting aggressively as if “he was on some kind of drugs”, although she told police he was not intoxicated.
According to sources for WFAA in Dallas, Crowley’s affidavit alleges that at one point during the drive to the apartment, Manziel said, “he was going to drop me off, take my auto and go kill himself”, and later told her to “shut up or I’ll kill us both”. She said she was running in and out of the apartment to get away from Manziel, but she eventually rushed over to a neighbor’s home to seek help.
Police said while they continued their investigation, Crowley became increasingly uncooperative and said she didn’t want to answer any more questions.
Speculation continues to run rampant in league circles that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones plans to sign Manziel as soon as Cleveland releases the former first-round pick, though this latest incident could put a serious damper on that possibility.
It has been widely reported that the Browns will cut Manziel when National Football League teams can make roster moves in March. They also called Manziel’s parents in an effort to locate him. Manziel is being investigated for a possible assault on Crowley.
In wake of the alleged incident, Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said Manziel’s conduct “undermines the hard work of his teammates” and his future with the team is under review. She’s also since deactivated her Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Dallas police said in a statement on Thursday that Manziel would not be charged in that city.
Additionally, Paul Manziel revealed that he tried to send his son to rehab on Tuesday, but he was allowed to leave because the facility is an inpatient and outpatient clinic. “I was in my kitchen so out of fear for my life, I pulled a knife out of my knife block and advanced toward him”, Crowley told police. According to the TV station, Crowley met Manziel, with whom she broke up in December after two years of dating, following a night of bar-hopping.
The first police report from the January 30 incident indicates that a woman was with Manziel.
A statement released Wednesday by the Browns stopped short of saying that: “We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field”. The Browns quarterback did not seem too anxious about any punishment regarding the incident, saying, “I have great things coming ahead”.
