Coldplay: ‘We’re rooting for the Denver Panthers’
“Then we called the right guests, so we know that we have great people joining us”.
Martin mentioned the band were huge Beyonce fans, and that their favorite song was “Single Ladies”.
Coldplay will be bringing a slice of Glastonbury Festival to this weekend’s Super Bowl in America on February 7, it’s been revealed.
“One is we just spoke to each other about what we’d like to communicate in the halftime show, and we decided that we wanted to make it about togetherness and acceptance and the things we really believe in”, he explained.
When asked what he envisioned being Coldplay’s “Left Shark moment” during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, Martin’s response had the crowd laughing.
Tell Us: Are you excited for this year’s performers?
Meanwhile, a question was lobbed at band frontman Chris Martin asking if his children Apple and Moses would watch on Sunday (no one, though, dared mention ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow).
Coldplay are set to perform with Beyonce during the much-anticipated half time show and the band had previously admitted they were feeling the pressure.
But on Thursday at the official halftime performance press conference, Martin was asked about the cartoonish and ubiquitous “Left Shark” from Katy Perry’s halftime performance a year ago. Nods to the past will include cameos by erstwhile half-time show performers Beyoncé (confirmed) and Bruno Mars (widely reported), while a collab with the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles will throw it forward. “I thought he was wonderful, or she, or whoever was in it”.
“It’s the Denver Panthers that we are definitely rooting for”, quipped Martin, after being badgered several times to take sides.
“I feel like Donald Trump”, joked Martin as the band walked to the stage in front of hundreds of members of the media. “So put that in your papers”.
Getting the halftime gig is one of the band’s more notable accomplishments, said Jonny Buckland, Coldplay’s lead guitarist.
