Hillary Clinton’s Awful Explanation for Why She Took Goldman Sachs’ Money
Again, President Clinton said this, “Now, we don’t have to publish all our donors for the Clinton Foundation, but if Hillary became president, I think there would questions about whether people would try to win favor by giving money to me”. In full disclosure, would you release all of them?
When Cooper asked how she thought the speeches would appear during a presidential campaign, Clinton suggested she hadn’t thought about such implications because she wasn’t sure if she would run for president.
Suuuuuuuure, she’ll “look into it”.
Bernie Sanders has chided Clinton publicly for her ties to Wall Street, tweeting, “Most progressives that I know don’t raise millions of dollars from Wall Street”.
Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., (D-IL) greets Secretary of State-designate Hillary Clinton at the Inauguration of President Barack Obama in January 2009. Hillary has had months, if not years, to release those transcripts and allay fears about her seemingly close relationship with Wall Street giants. “That’s what they offered, so um…” Sanders points to and a lot of your critics point to is you made three speeches for Goldman Sachs.
“Look, I made speeches to lots of groups”. That’s what they offered, so…
“I’m constantly trying to balance how do I assume the mantle of a position as essentially august as president of the United States [and] not lose track of who I am, what I believe in and what I want to do to serve”, Clinton said.
Clinton actually undercharged Goldman Sachs, since she was paid $9,000 less than her average fee. Qualcomm paid her $335,000 in 2014, while eBay paid her $315,000 in 2015. “As Sanders has put her on the defensive about her Wall Street contributions, Clinton has responded that the campaign money does not influence her approach to regulating the financial industry”.
COOPER: But (inaudible) for office they’re not running for an office…
Former U.S. Pres. Bill Clinton with former First Lady and former Sec.of State Hillary Clinton with former U.S. Pres. Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalyn Carter Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Dallas at the ceremony for the George W. Bush Presidential… “And I don’t know that there is any ever absolute answer, like, ‘Okay, universe, here I am, watch me roar, ‘ or ‘Oh, my gosh, I can’t do it, it’s just overwhelming, I have to retreat'”.
Meanwhile, Sanders is touting the fact that Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein called his campaign’s insurgence one of the “dangerous moments” of the 2016 election, “not just for Wall Street, but for anyone who is a little bit out of line”. I’m out here every day saying I’m going to shut them down, I’m going after them.
