Two hurt after Glasgow motorbike stunt goes wrong
Two people have been badly injured in a motorbike stunt during a Nitro Circus show in Glasgow, after the bike they were on fell backwards off a ramp.
The big issue is, with today’s risk averse “health and safety” regulations, how on earth was it possible for The Hydro management to permit this show to invite members of the audience to participate in so clearly risky a stunt – and one in which their own lesser experience could itself have caused a failure.
But the volunteers were rushed to hospital after the daredevil backflip stunt went wrong.
However, the volunteers, who were on the bike with a professional rider, came off when it appeared to stall near the top of the ramp and tip onto its side during the stun at the Nitro Circus event at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro arena last night.
The four men were wearing helmets as well as protective suits and the injured pair were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. 4 man back flip just failed.
“They got to the top of the ramp and just stopped”. The stuntman was ok. “You couldn’t hear it from up in the stands”.
The video shows the bike heading for a ramp, but it seems that its speed is most likely a bit lower than what it would usually take to clear a jump while carrying such a load. They were doing backflips and combinations – they had a La-Z-Boy for one and there were people with snowboards doing backflips and spins, and there was a bathtub at one point and people on rollerblades. “That was really impressive”.
Nitro Circus is a motorbike stunt show which is now on the European leg of a world tour. They are set to perform in Edinburgh in June.
