Could Rams sign Peyton Manning in return to LA?
The Los Angeles Rams hold the 15th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and it will be interesting to see what their front office decides, as there are a few quarterbacks that could be taken off the board in the first round.
NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the Rams have had internal discussions about bringing Manning to Los Angeles in 2016. And now it’s “can’t win ANOTHER Super Bowl”. The team traded for Nick Foles last season, giving up Sam Bradford in a deal with the Eagles, but Foles was so bad he was beaten out by noodle-armed Case Keenum by the end of the season.
Manning will be playing in the four Super Bowl of his career but the Broncos superstar had troubles dealing with injuries this season.
Many will criticize the one-and-dones and not winning more championships, but how many quarterbacks and fan bases would kill to have his level of success?
In addition to that, Manning’s impact on the offense, such that it is, would be immediate and immeasurable. Manning can’t be much worse than the other guys the Rams trotted out to play QB in their final season in St. Louis.
“I bought him a suit, two shirts and two ties for the road trip – and he may have been one of the best dressed players on the team coming out here on Sunday”, Manning said.
Sorry, Peyton: Eli played in nine games (seven starts) in 2004 and threw nine interceptions, well off the record pace. You can’t lose a playoff game without making the playoffs.
Should Manning and the Broncos fall to the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, Manning could be back.
“Rams have a young offensive line that still has plenty of developmental work to do and a receiver corps with no top options like Demaryius Thomas or Emmanuel Sanders”, Wagoner said.
Manning has had three neck surgeries, foot surgery, significant elbow nerve problems, and announced this week he will need a hip replacement at some point. It’s a right to which they’re entitled.
And if he chooses to finish his career in L.A., he’ll be following in the footsteps of the New York Jets’ Hall of Famer Joe Namath, who finished his career with the L.A. Rams in 1977.
Even if he were to keep paying, it remains unclear if Manning would even consider a franchise such as the Rams as an option.
