‘H1Z1’ Will Become Two Games Later This Month
Today, Daybreak Games announced that the apocalypse simulator H1Z1, now in Early Access, is being split into two independent days: H1Z1: King of the Kill and H1Z1: Just Survive.
H1Z1: King of the Kill is a large-scale, fight-to-the-death shooter where every second counts.
For those that aren’t familiar, the Just Survive part of H1Z1 follows the survival formula established by rival games such as DayZ.
Anyone who already owns H1Z1 will be granted both versions and will see it listed in your Steam games inventory on February 17, which will act as the official day of the split. No time frame was given on when H1Z1: Just Survive will make its own transition out of early access but the plan is to make the game available for PC and console as well.
Despite the popularity of H1Z1 the game never made the transition out of Steam Early-Access. Battle Royale is a hugely popular mode and getting it on consoles quickly is a smart business move. Everyone that now owns H1Z1 will have Just Survive and King of the Kill added to their Steam libraries with their own separate game listings and Steam communities.
H1Z1: King of the Kill is slated to hit PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
“Last year, we started to notice new player trends emerging – both the initial Survival game and Battle Royale game mode now have strong populations who nearly exclusively play one or the other”, writes Daybreak Game Company.
The decision to split the two games sounds great, on paper.
“They have completely different communities that have different needs, desires, and wants, and we really want to be able to cater and grow the games to be able to nurture both of those players bases distinctly”. And, you’ll get to keep any cosmetic items, keys, unopened crates, and event tickets you’ve acquired or purchased before the game splits in two. “Many players in the community have been discussing splitting the game and we’ve heard you loud and clear”, said the developer in the announcement.
In a canned statement, Daybreak chief publishing officer Laura Naviaux explained that H1Z1 was the No. 4 top-selling game on Steam in 2015. Basically think of it as H1Z1 without the multiplayer components where you’ve got to turn against others and engage in battles to the death.
