Donald Trump Calls Ted Cruz Canadian ‘Anchor Baby’
Thursday night’s Fox News/Google GOP Debate attracted better ratings than candidate Donald Trump’s counter-event and the previous January 14 Republican presidential debate on Fox Business that featured the billionaire real estate investor and reality TV star.
In comparison, the cable channels that showed portions of Trump’s veterans benefit, CNN and MSNBC, had a total of 2.7 million viewers combined.
But Trump has a genuine battle on his hands in Iowa with ultra-conservative Cruz who trails by about five percentage points in the RealClearPolitics average of recent Iowa polls.
So was the Trump-less Fox News debate a ratings disaster or a ratings win for Fox?
The decision of Trump to boycott the debate didn’t go well with other Republican candidates. With Trump’s absence from the main debate, the spotlight fell on Senator Ted Cruz. “Nobody likes him anywhere once they get to know him.” .
Instead, Trump held his own rally in Iowa at the same time as the debate, which he promoted as a way to raise money for charity.
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s supporters are sticking with him despite his controversial move to skip a Fox News debate just days before Monday’s Iowa caucuses.
“I must warn you to be careful, Mr. Trump, in the past when you’ve turned against a woman that way she ends up with half your assets”, Colbert said and smiled. He later added that he hoped to earn the support of Trump’s voters.
And former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who was in the undercard debate Thursday, took his turn Friday as well, accusing Cruz of flip-flopping. With one of his first answers Ted Cruz made a joke about Trump saying, “I’m a maniac, and everyone on this stage is stupid, fat and ugly and Ben you’re a awful surgeon”.
Donald Trump is touting the beauty of Twitter, which has become his favorite platform for attacking his rivals and commenting on the race. During the 2012 campaign, the host used the device to highlight the differences between the newly hard-line conservative Mitt Romney and the far more progressive Mitt Romney who brought universal health care to MA.
