Jurgen Klopp denies Liverpool want to offload striker Daniel Sturridge
Liverpool star man Daniel Sturridge has struggled to stay injury-free since his breakout campaign in 2013-14 that ended with Liverpool almost winning the league.
LIVERPOOL STRIKER DANIEL Sturridge reportedly wants to leave the club over criticism of his injury record.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will not play unless he is 100 percent fit, according to Anfield legend Jamie Carragher. If somebody asks me something about this, I’m not interested in “suggestions” – [there’s] nothing to say.
He added that the Sturridge speculation “is absolutely no story, not interesting”.
“There is absolutely nothing to say about it. I have heard nothing”.
“It would be cool if we could leave it there and start from now on…there is no story”.
Sturridge won’t want to look at the statistics of his injuries.
“Like I’ve said, we are drawing closer to the stage where a draw is no longer required, it’s a victory, and that’s where I didn’t want to be”.
The 61-year-old said: “I made a bit of a comment – which I perhaps shouldn’t have done – which wasn’t directed at him, really”.
However, a long-term injury sustained at the beginning of last season has been the catalyst of a succession of set-backs for the striker – some which have been the subject of slight controversy.
“Everyone knows his quality but it is only important for now that he can train each day and play Tuesday”. We tried everything we could to bring him in this shape and now we’re in the moment where we hopefully can get the benefit of this work.
But, speaking at his media briefing on Friday, Klopp said: “We had the problem with Martin Skrtel, a little bit re-injured”. And Arsenal’s recent troubles have highlighted once again to us fans the need for more fire power. Divock Origi, Phil Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge have not been available for five or six weeks which means 14 or 15 games.
Klopp is bewildered by suggestions Sturridge feels he has not had enough support from his club as they await his return from injury against West Ham next week.
Midfielder Joe Allen, meanwhile, has suffered a small knock to his shoulder, which will be assessed ahead of the weekend.
