‘Door is not shut’ for Terry at Chelsea, says Hiddink
Chelsea skipper John Terry revealed the club will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season and he will therefore be considering all his options before then, although the club insist nothing has been decided yet.
Guus Hiddink has admitted that he was shocked by John Terry’s decision to publicly declare he is not being offered a new Chelsea contract.
Terry claimed he was set to depart the London club at the end of the season after the 5-1 win at MK Dons in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, but former Netherlands coach Hiddink wants him at Stamford Bridge.
“I have had some conversations with him in the past days”.
‘There has been no specific decision made yet, it’s early and we have to see what comes up with the transition of the management. We have to see it from his side and the club’s side.
And Hiddink, who has held heart-to-heart talks with the defender this week, has reiterated Terry still has a chance of earning fresh terms. I like John very much, the way he’s playing and that he’s committed to the team, and will continue to be like that. “I signed a four-year contract a couple of months ago so that shows I want to be here”, Cahill told the club’s website (www.chelseafc.com).
He has won every major club honour since making his debut as a 17-year-old in October 1998, including four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League in 2012. He is fit and performing as he is.
“I can say, theoretically, no one is irreplaceable”.
John Terry dropped a bombshell to Chelsea supporters by announcing publicly that he meant to leave Chelsea in the summer. “Well, the door is not shut”.
Reports have also said that the 35-year-old England national team captain is not considering a transfer to a rival English Premier League club as he is a “Blue by heart” and always will. We’ve spoken about that, and he will be very professional but also work hard. “He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open”, the spokesperson added.
