James Hahn shoots 65 to lead at halfway point of Phoenix Open
Over the last couple of years, I have made some putts.
James Hahn fired a bogey-free six-under par 66 on Friday to grab the lead in the second round of the US PGA Tour Phoenix Open ahead of Rickie Fowler and Danny Lee.
“I hit a bad shot at the wrong time”, Mickelson said.
A day after Watson disparaged changes to the host course debuted a year ago and said he was only playing in the tournament because several of his sponsors are located in the Phoenix area, he had to face a crowd well aware of what the two-time Masters victor said.
“So the fact that the PGA Tour is a little lenient on us doing whatever things you want to do on that hole, it’s good for golf, good for the game, good for the fans”.
Fowler, who missed the cut at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open after winning the previous week at the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship, was delighted to maintain his new-found form on the greens.
But when he was asked why he liked the course so much, Watson replied that, in fact, he didn’t, launching into a diatribe about recent changes made to the course by architect Tom Weiskopf, a former Open champion.
“I didn’t explain myself well”, Watson said.
Fowler rebounded from a three-putt bogey on the par-4 17th with the birdie on the par-4 18th. I was just praying I was going to hit the green.
Fowler added an eagle at the par-five 15th – where he drained a 27-footer – and sandwiched a birdie between two bogeys before picking up two more strokes coming in. In the afternoon, she made one birdie in six holes to get back to 7-under par and share the lead with Ha Na Jang.
Phil Mickelson was 2 under after a 71. Wilson is at one-under, in a tie for 47th place.
Only four players – Bo Van Pelt, Patrick Rodgers, Brendon de Jonge and Kyle Reifers – were unable to complete their rounds due to darkness. Brandt Snedeker, the victor Monday at Torrey Pines, also had a 67.
