US Election: Marco Rubio is ‘coddled’ and ‘never accomplished anything,’ rivals claim
Bush will certainly not drop out of the race before the New Hampshire primary, but if he believes in a somewhat-unified Republican Party he should throw his support behind Rubio as soon as possible. The electorate tends to favor more moderate candidates, making him a more natural fit than he was in evangelical-dominated Iowa, despite his efforts to appeal to the group.
Republican presidential candidate, Sen.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush with supporters in New London, New Hampshire, February 3, 2016.
In an interview on Boston Herald Radio, he called his opponent’s actions “unthinkable” and “one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen”.
Donald Trump, still fuming over his disappointing second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, said Thursday that politicians are “full of s-t”. “Under his definition, President Obama is not progressive because he took donations from Wall Street; Vice President Biden is not progressive because he supported Keystone”, Clinton said.
New caucus-goers unsurprisingly went for Trump, but his margins over Rubio and Cruz were quite modest. On to New Hampshire.
Trump’s other opponents, particularly Governors Chris Christie, Jeb Bush and John Kasich, have worked diligently to meet citizens in diverse community settings, but they have not yet altered the dynamics of the race established last summer.
That follows a well-worn playbook White House hopefuls have followed for decades in New Hampshire.
The New Jersey governor suggested Rubio was unfairly benefiting from a media bump in the aftermath of the Iowa caucuses.
In the packed upstairs room of an Irish pub, the walls draped with banners for the local sports teams, Mr Rubio said that many in the Republican Party had told him to “wait your turn”, but he had refused because “if we get this election wrong there may be no going back for America”. (According to Christie, Rubio never accomplished anything, lived a charmed life, never had a hard race and is a “boy in the bubble”, a phrase he now uses incessantly.) In Iowa, Christie used the same arguments about unprepared freshmen senators to no avail against Cruz and Rubio, so it is not clear that it now will work in New Hampshire.
The controversy erupted after CNN reported Monday night that Carson would go home to Florida following the Iowa caucuses instead of flying directly to the early voting states New Hampshire and SC. There is a reason why the Democrats, and in particular Hillary Clinton, attack me five times for every time they want to attack someone else. (This from a Bush, the son of one president and brother to another who took his mother and former first lady Barbara Bush with him to campaign.) Bush has tried mocking Rubio for complaining about negative ads (Rubio has not, but his supporters have) and accuses Rubio of thinking only of himself (!). “But I think Rubio really has a desire, a passion for this country and its greatness”, Johnson said. Other measures from ABC News and CNN showed Trump with an even larger advantage, and Rubio with a similarly small percentage of the vote.
Is he still confident about New Hampshire? Wayne Hogan, the owner of a North Little Rock office furniture store who was wearing a Revolution-era jacket and hat along with a Trump shirt, said he shared the billionaire’s concerns about the caucuses. Moreover, candidates can practice their messages and fix mistakes before the intense glare of the national spotlight focuses on them, much as Broadway producers schedule plays for out-of-town performances before the opening on Broadway. “Just go out, you’ve got to get out and vote”. But I know, I know about politics and politics you got to, you got tell your story as well and mine’s one that’s different than others, Ah in my family but we love each other, ah fiercely.
