Celine Dion Returns To Vegas Following Husband’s Death
She said: “I was never part of any of the meetings that he had where he had to say yes or no. He protected me from day one to for the rest of my life, I am pretty sure of that”. Angelil died January 14, in Las Vegas at the age of 73.
LAS VEGAS (AP) – Celine Dion will address the audience, but she isn’t expected to sing at the memorial in Las Vegas for Rene Angelil, her husband and manager credited launching with her career. Dion and Angelil held hands before each of her concerts, and had a bronze statue cast of Angelil’s hand after he became too sick to attend shows.
Dion last released Loved Me Back to Life in 2013, and is scheduled to remain in residency at the Caesar’s Colosseum until 2019.
“On behalf of my family, thank you again for being here for this handsome tribute of Monday amour, René, I love you, so much”.
The couple’s eldest son, Rene-Charles, 15, and his half-brother Patrick, Jean-Pierre and half-sister Anne-Marie Angelil supported the 47-year-old singer on stage.
“We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most hard time… more than you’ll ever know”.
They all described a man who was kind, generous and completely devoted to his wife and her talent.
At the Las Vegas memorial, the mother and son will be joined by Angelil’s children from previous marriages and his brother, Dion’s publicist Kim Jakwerth said.
Angelil’s funeral took place on January 22nd but this is the first time Dion has publicly opened up about her loss; that’s apart from the open letter she unveiled on Friday, thanking her fans for their kindness.
Rene lost his battle with cancer in Henderson, Nevada, just two days ahead of his 74th birthday.
