Cam Newton hoping to dethrone Peyton Manning at Super Bowl 50
The Carolina Panthers could bag their first ever Vince Lombardi trophy when they face the Denver Broncos at the Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco. When Carolina hits 21, it will signal Denver is in trouble.
For local fans this year’s Super Bowl match-up is drawn over division lines.
“Probably when I was about 7 or 8 years old…I was watching my brother play (youth) football, so I started watching it and that’s when I became a Panthers fan because that’s where I was from”. For a game this big, you need something bigger and bolder that lives up to the potential heavyweight slugfest that may ensue courtesy of Payton Manning and Cam Newton. Eli’s Giants played Cam Newton and the Panthers in the regular season, rallying from 28 points down in the second half to tie the game in the fourth quarter, only to lose on a field goal as time expired. Manning rallied the team to a 27-20 win, led playoff wins over a badly wounded Steelers team and the Patriots, and suddenly it was as if his backup had never existed.
No, I’m not talking about Cam Newton and Peyton Manning. Damon Holowchak with the Donnelly Group says most of the organization’s pubs are nearly sold out.
Jeanna Thomas (The Falcoholic co-editor in chief): Carolina… the Carolina Panthers are a very complete team.
For Manning to take the Denver Broncos to their first National Football League title since the team’s current general manager, Elway, did in 1999 before retiring, seems the sentimental choice across the nation.
When asked by EW in an interview this week about his Super Bowl plans, the Last Week Tonight host replied: “I definitely will watch it. I would like Peyton Manning to win – and retire”. Allen was traded to the Panthers in late September and has been a strong addition to a dominant defense this season. Von Miller and company won’t make it easy on the Panthers, but I just don’t see Denver’s offense being able to do enough to pull off the win on Sunday.
“I can’t imagine a season when he’s not there, just knowing my big brother’s not playing in a game, ” said Eli, who is in town early as a finalist for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
I think the Panthers are going to pull it off Sunday and will have a parade in Charlotte a couple of days later.
