Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be key signing for Aston Villa – Ray
Adebayor, 31, has scored 18 goals in his 54 appearances for the club but often found himself out of favour at White Hart Lane during the various different regimes in North London in recent years.
Now Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins has moved on to reveal that the club are in the process of signing Adebayor and has stated his belief that the 31-year old will be a very good addition to the ranks at the club under Sherwood.
The Spurs forward seemingly has not future at White Hart Lane and has been strongly linked with a reunion with Tim Sherwood, now the manager of Villa.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to get the former AS Roma striker off the wage bill and reports claim that both Villa and Leicester could offer him a route out.
Wilkins said: “I think there is [a chance of signing Adebayor]”.
However, the Belgian striker eventually moved to Liverpool in a £32.5 million deal [Mirror], leaving Mauricio Pochettino to look elsewhere for offensive reinforcements.
“I can only talk for myself, but I’m hoping there is because when Adebayor wants to play, he is extremely effective”.
A third recruit from Ligue 1 may be set to join them, with Wilkins confirming in the talkSPORT interview that Ghana striker Jordan Ayew was already in the country ahead of his medical with the one-team European Cup winners.
