Dane Bowers ‘Attacked Ex-Girlfriend Sophia Cahill After Row Over Glitter
On Monday (27 July), the court heard that the former Another Level singer lashed out at Sophia, when she questioned him about glitter that was on his face.
Granting Bowers conditional bail, District Judge Andrew Sweet said: “That is the Crown’s case”.
An mad Bowers allegedly unleashed a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend which involved throwing her out of a bedroom, hitting her in the face, pulling her hair and squeezing her throat, it was claimed. She began to hit me again and I was deflecting her blows when she lost her balance and fell.
Miss Cahill was crowned Miss Wales in 2000 and went on to have a successful modelling career. “I got up and took her by the arms and moved her out of the room”.
They were engaged for a year before Miss Cahill, a former Miss Wales, claimed to have found photographs of other women on his phone and called their romance off. I didn’t know what was going to happen next.
The couple were sharing a house with Bowers’ parents after their separation and Cahill has alleged that the 35-year-old assaulted her and left her with a bloody nose following a row in January.
Bowers seemed “drunk” or “hung over” that morning, she said.
Ms Cahill, who said Bowers was “very, very scary when he shouts”, also told the court: “He hit me in the nose and there was blood everywhere from my nose”.
Mr Geller said the crown accepted that Miss Cahill had slapped Bowers during the incident, but only as she was trying to get to her two-year-old son, and only after Bowers had attacked her.
During cross-examination, defence lawyer John Blandford told Ms Cahill: “You were the aggressor”.
Ms Cahill, who sobbed briefly as she recalled details of the alleged attack, told the court: “I pointed to the glitter on his face”.
Bowers had asked her to attend hypnotism classes to help her trust him, she explained.
The couple were together for three years but their relationship hit the rocks in February 2014.
Bowers later told police that he did not attack Ms Cahill, saying that he was in fact “deflecting her blows”.
He gave a no comment interview, but made a short statement to police in which he denied attacking her and said that he had acted in “self defence at all times”.
Former Another Level star Dane Bowers will appear in court on an assault charge.
