Down 31 points in December, Sanders now in dead heat with Clinton
Here’s what she at last night’s New Hampshire debate when asked if she would release the transcripts of what we are calling her “Goldman Sessions”.
The two had been running relatively cordial campaigns against one another, with Sanders and Clinton even jovial at times, but following Monday’s razor-thin outcome in Iowa, that tone changed dramatically during a town hall Thursday night in New Hampshire. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton’s campaign got a much-needed shot in the arm when she won New Hampshire five days later. On foreign policy, she tried to poke a hole in Sanders’ argument that his vote against the invasion of Iraq is proof he has the judgment necessary to manage America’s involvement in the turbulent Middle East.
Clinton is right to tout her Wall Street plan, which Senator Elizabeth Warren praised and which Paul Krugman says is tougher than Sanders’s. “It is fair to say, Senator, that in your definition, as you being the self-proclaimed gatekeeper for progressivism, I don’t know anyone else who fits that definition”.
UPI reports that Chelsea Clinton was in the middle of a speech before the Democratic debate took place and referred to Vermont Sen.
Asked if she would support an audit, if that’s what the state party wanted to do, Clinton said she would: “Whatever they made a decision to do, that’s fine”.
The Hillary Clinton campaign is ramping up its MI presence as well, building on a base of volunteers and opening offices across the state.
“I am 100 percent confident”, she said. Sanders countered that Clinton “does represent the establishment”.
The “governor” candidates – John Kasich of OH, former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Chris Christie of New Jersey – need a strong performance on Tuesday to keep their presidential hopes alive.
Sanders sees opportunities on March 1 as well, particularly in Minnesota, Massachusetts and his home state of Vermont.
It was Clinton who was the main aggressor, saying Sanders could never achieve his ambitious and costly proposals.
“I think it’s time to end the very artful smear that you and your campaign have been carrying out in recent weeks”, the 68-year-old added to a smattering of boos among the in-house audience of 600.
“Some people have looked at the polls that show Sen”.
The poll was conducted from February 2-4 and is the first national survey of the race since Clinton narrowly defeated Sanders in Iowa, a contest that he has referred to as “a virtual tie”.
The increasingly contentious Democratic race was the latest twist in an election campaign that, until recently, had been dominated by the crowded and cacophonous field of Republicans, spread all across New Hampshire.
Tim Malloy, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said the rise of Bernie Sanders is clearly evident in the dramatically changing poll numbers.
He also brought up the suspicious death of Vince Foster, a deputy White House counsel who committed suicide in 1993, as an example of a Clinton scandal that didn’t hold water.
ELIZABETH WARREN: She has taken money from the groups, and more to the point, she worries about them as a constituency.
As candidates crisscrossed the state, the all-out push for votes despite a snow storm that forced Sanders and Republican candidate Donald Trump, to cancel afternoon events, illustrated the growing stakes.
