Karnataka HM on Stripping Incident: Case of Mistaken Identity
Yesterday, five people were arrested.
The recent mob attack on a 21 years old Tanzanian female student, who was also allegedly stripped by in Bengaluru, has drawn severe criticism from all quarters.
The minister and senior police officers also made the assurance to Kijazi and the ministry of external affairs (MEA) team who flew into the city for taking stock of the situation arising out of the shocking incident. “He informed me that a criminal case has been registered and four accused have been arrested”, Sushma Swaraj tweeted.
Bangalore’s police commissioner, N.S. Megharikh, told reporters that his department has “zero tolerance for such kind of mob mindset”.
Gowda, a former state chief minister during the Bharatiya Janata Party rule in 2011-12, is a lawmaker from the Bengaluru North Lok Sabha constituency, in which the locality (Soladevanahalli) where the incident took place falls.
The Tanzanian girl who became a victim of the mob fury last week, after it mistook her vehicle being involved in a road mishap on the same night, has reportedly said that Police threw her friend back to the corwd when he went for help.
“Strongly condemn incident with Tanzanian lady in Bangalore”. The incident has stoked controversy with the state government denying it was an act of racism, and the local police covering their tracks after not filing an FIR on the incident immediately.

Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj branded the attack “shameful” and demanded swift justice for those responsible, as she moved to defuse diplomatic tensions over the incident.
The woman and her three friends – all Tanzanians – were attacked as they were passing by the accident site.
“I have asked them to take action against officials if there is any fault on their part”, he said. “That was when they were attacked”, Bernandoo Kafumu, president of the Tanzanian students’ association at the local college, said, according to BBC.
The African students alleged that the Bengaluru police viewed them with contempt whenever they approached the cops for assistance. It was then, a Sudanese driver dragged out the woman.
