Bernie Sanders makes ‘SNL’ appearance with Larry David
Sanders portrayed a passenger on an endangered ship who argued with David about who should be allowed on a lifeboat.
“In terms of Larry David, I think we’re going to put him up on the stage at our next rally – let him do it rather than me”, Sanders said at an Iowa campaign stop after the show aired.
‘You lifted me up and gave me back my voice, ‘ Clinton said.
How SNL will spin this remains to be seen: will it be used to promote Sanders’ increasingly popular political agenda, or simply be used for comedic purposes to emphasize the politician’s humanity?
Citing a source with direct knowledge of the plan, The Washington Post reports that Sanders is planning a trip to NY on Saturday and is likely to make an appearance on the show.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders speaks at a campaign event in Exeter, New Hampshire February 5, 2016. She played Val, a bartender, listening to Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton character complain about how hard it is to run for president. Donald Trumphas also appeared on the show. They reviewed the fashion of the presidential candidates with the coldness of Blue Steel: “Hillary’s from the 90s – which are so hot right now!” and “Donnie” Trump’s signature looks including “Orange Mocha Crappuccino” and “Hot Mess”. Vulture caught up with SNL co-head writer Rob Klein to find out how Larry David originally landed the gig as the presidential hopeful.
According to CNN Sanders’s campaign manager all but confirmed it, coyly saying “We’ll be live in NY”. When Jimmy Kimmel asked him what he thought of David’s impersonation, Sanders said it was “pretty, pretty, pretty good”, mimicking one of David’s familiar phrases.
Hours ahead of his appearance, Sanders showed his full support for friend and doppelgänger David, changing his website and Twitter profile momentarily.
