Snyder Defends Office’s Handling of Legionnaires’
When Democratic-Presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits Flint on Sunday, she will attend a community meeting and discuss a senate amendment.
A task force Snyder appointed to investigate the crisis has concluded that the DEQ is primarily to blame for not requiring the chemicals, which allowed lead to leach into the water.
The state health department makes each city test its drinking water’s lead levels every three years.
It is no wonder the U.S. Attorney’s office and the FBI are investigating the situation in Flint and treating it as a criminal matter.
Hampton sits on the National Drinking Water Advisory Council, which advises the EPA on implementation of the law.
The list urged more emphasis on lead water pipe replacement and proper corrosion control measures to prevent leaching of lead. She adds that her organization has contacted the University of MI to try to get medical students to provide lead testing at St. Mary’s, but that’s still in the works.
“It epitomizes where I would like us to be, in terms of making sure there are no loopholes”.
In the meantime, some pipes are depositing more lead in the water than the filters are rated to handle, officials have said.
Hampton sees some parallels between his town and Flint.
In relation to Snyder’s claims of ignorance of the matter, Progress Michigan asked the question, “Are we to believe that a top staffer with years of experience would not inform Governor Snyder of a possibly deadly situation?”
That’s as opposed to Flint, where the source of high lead levels is the water, which is a public commodity, treated and supplied by the government.
“Outside people were figuring out these problems, while the very agencies that we pay to protect us from lead in water were lying to each other in writing”, Edwards says.
The Detroit News reports that about 30 from Michigan State University helped pass out water and collect empty plastic bottles Friday outside a Flint shopping center. We need to be serious about a tax structure that generates enough money to take better care of critical needs.

Snyder responded that he is working hard to fix the problem. And yet, someone thought it was fine for black children to drink and bathe in that water.

In her email to commissioners, LaRocque said a trio of factors combined to create the crisis in Flint.
EPA officials met with Flint residents in January, as did President Barack Obama, who spoke with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver on Jan. 19. “Well, here’s your water filtration system”.
That may seem like good news to Flint businesses that need to replace equipment damaged during the city’s drinking water crisis.
Residents have complained of being sickened by the water, and the crisis has mushroomed into a political and public safety nightmare.
Hollins’ comments came after e-mails were released Thursday that showed Hollins was notified in March – more than nine months before Snyder said he learned of the problem – that there was an increase in Legionnaires’ disease in Genesee County and that a county health official feared the change was a result of drinking water taken from the Flint River.
