John Terry may stay – Hiddink
“It was a bit surprising, but he’s completely entitled to do so when his contract is expiring”, said Hiddink, speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash at Watford.
Interim manager Hiddink today said he had had talks with Terry over the situation and insisted that his skipper would be fully committed to the club for the remainder of the season no matter what happens.
“They said that, when the new manager comes in, things might change, but it’s a “no” at the minute”, he said. Unfortunately it was a no [from the club]. “I’m not going to retire at Chelsea”. On the other hand there is also the club’s side. He will not just be professional but he will play with his heart as well’.
The England worldwide, a Champions League and Premier League victor with Chelsea since arriving from Bolton in 2012, fears his sudden exile will damage his chances of featuring at Euro 2016 and could force him to take the unwanted step of considering joining a club who can satisfy his desire for first-team action. “I can’t say at this moment [if Falcao will still move to China]”. You have to see what’s coming up with the transition of the manager too. But it is very important for me I feel personally, even selfishly, the need to be playing football matches. But since then myself and everyone else has picked up back to where we are.
The stopper, who has been at Selhurst Park since 2004 and has played over 400 games for the club, has been linked with several Championship clubs.
He added: “Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club is moving in a different direction”.
Hiddink also suggested Chelsea would be losing a player with the potential to be a future coach.
Terry said he’ll continue his career but not at another Premier League club. I’ve always been that way; it’s always been in my make-up to play a high percentage of games. “It will be elsewhere for sure”.
“I recommend and people can do what they like”. The young back believes that Chelsea can make a push for a title victory as a send-off for the Blues legend. He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day.
“The club are saying that they are still negotiating”.
