Bernie and Larry do SNL
“Democratic socialism”, the presidential candidate clarifies.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ television comedy rite of passage was more than “pretty, pretty, pretty good” on Saturday Night Live this week alongside his impersonator Larry David.
“Enough is enough! We need to unite and work together if we’re going to get through this!” shouted Sanders. (“We’re going to change it when we get to America so it doesn’t sound so Jewish”, Sanders joked.) David’s character ribbed Sanders about his distinctive pronunciation of “huge” – “Huge with a Y?”
“What’s the difference”, David asked.
The two sometimes-prickly Jews from Brooklyn have similarly bald pates and are about five years apart in age, and have been compared at least since Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David first played Sanders last year on SNL.
As Bernie Sanders prepares to take the legendary stage of “Saturday Night Live”, he is undoubtedly hoping to come off as likable, self-aware and, most importantly, funny.
Are you excited to see Larry David and Bernie Sanders appear on SNL together?
“Hold on, hold on, wait a second”, Sanders said as cheers erupted from the crowd.
David is the latest presidential candidate to appear on the show as of late, with Hillary Clinton making a cameo and Donald Trump hosting back in November.
They may have five more debates scheduled, but what Democratic voters may really want after tonight is Bernie Sanderswitski vs. Val the bartender. She gave me a cough-and-shake. Sanders, a passenger, walked up to David, saying: “I am so sick of the 1 percent getting this preferential treatment – enough is enough!”
Later in the sketch David watched the polls close on the night of the Iowa caucuses with his campaign team and wife Jane Sanders, portrayed by SNL’s Vanessa Bayer.
