Rams discussing bringing in Peyton Manning at quarterback for 2016
Although Peyton has acknowledged to close friends that he expects Sunday’s game to be his last, Eli Manning warned NFL Media’s Andrew Siciliano on Friday not to expect a decision in front of an global television audience. His $19 million base salary for 2016 is scheduled to become fully guaranteed on March 9, so if Manning elects to return for another year, the Broncos won’t have much time to work with to agree to a new deal to keep him with the team.
Citing a league source, Senior Writer Adam Schefter reported the Rams are “monitoring the Manning situation” even though the 39-year-old quarterback is still under contract with the Broncos.
Manning also shared stories about the worst torture he faced from Peyton while they were growing up and his thoughts about being a nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award during an entertaining visit.
The Rams have plenty of problems at the quarterback position, with neither Nick Foles nor Case Keenum playing particularly well in 2015.
While dealing with plantar fascia, Manning finished the regular season with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He has played better in the two playoff games and now the Broncos are within one win of a Lombardi Trophy, but it’s clear that Manning is very near to the end.
As for the Rams, it’s clear they need quarterback help.
The revived Los Angeles Rams could be looking to make a splash acquisition this offseason. “But I think that was going to be a lot of drama, again, to change teams, that he didn’t want to go through”.
