Storm Imogen set to batter Britain with 80mph winds
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for London and the Home Counties as the storm sweeps in from the English Channel.
During Sunday night and Monday morning, gusts of 60-70 miles per hour are likely, with 80 miles per hour gusts in exposed coastal areas, particularly Cornwall and North Devon.
The Met Office put out the second-highest level alert because of the risk of high winds from storm Imogen which is approaching from the Atlantic.
Strong gales are expected to hit from 3am on Monday to 6pm the same day.
That means we could be looking at winds of 80mph.
AS Cornwall clears up after the torrential rainfall and high winds of Friday night and Saturday, weathermen have warned there is more trouble on the horizon.
For the northern half of the United Kingdom and specifically our NE region, we are closest to the centre of the low pressure system where the isobars are more widely spaced, so there will be little impact on the region from Storm Imogen.
Meanwhile, a status Yellow weather warning will be in place for Clare, Limerick and Waterford.
“There is an amber warning for wind mainly focused on Devon and Cornwall but stretching into central England on Monday morning”.
Forecasters say today’s calm sunny spells will be replaced this evening by wind and rain.
“The wind will be combined with some hefty showers with some thunder”.
The Met Office has also warned that trees could be bought down in the storm and structures could be damaged, as well as disruption to power supplies.
“Be aware of sudden gusts of wind, and give high-sided vehicles, caravans, and motorbikes plenty of space”.
