WATCH: Barack Obama Welcomes the Warriors to The White House
Will Billy Donovan counter by going big and taking the game to the Warriors his way, or try to play a smaller lineup to matchup with the Warriors’ “Death Lineup” of Green, Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry?
John Wall led the Wizards with a season-high 41 points and 10 assists.
It is rare to be in the presence of guys from the greatest team in National Basketball Association history.
The Cavaliers were in a good position at the halfway point, leading by nine, but a fine third quarter brought the Hornets back into it as they outscored their visitors by 33-17.
Stephen Curry scored a 51 points and the Golden State Warriors won their eighth game in a row, 134-121 over the Washington Wizards Tuesday, to continue their march toward history.
This won’t be Curry’s first White House visit, nor is it the first time meeting President Obama. “He was all jumping up and down”.
And on this cool, gray Thursday in the nation’s capital, the National Basketball Association champion Warriors were the guests of honor as the president extolled their virtues in the official ceremony that awaits every champion in American professional sports. “I’m ready to go”, Obama, quickly taking up the offer to be a Warrior, joked.
“For those of you who watched the game against the Wizards last night, he was – to use slang – he was ‘clowning, ‘ ” Obama said.
He told the crowd, “I was hoping that Riley Curry would be here today to share the podium with me”.
“I can’t imagine how that feels”, the president added.
God bless the Warriors – and everyone who has to play them. “So we don’t know if you have anything lined up yet, but …” The system that Steve Kerr hasimplemented securesthe blessings of free-flowing basketball for this generation of Warriors fans and their posterity.
“The point is, this is a great basketball team, but it’s a great organization, it’s a great culture”, he explained.
The Warriors remain on pace for the best-ever regular season record, a mark held by the Michael Jordan-led 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls (72-10). He came one three short of tying the single-game record, and though it was on his mind, he didn’t start popping shots just to reach it as the game got out of hand.
All that said, the Warriors’ needed Curry’s and Green’s spectacular night to prevail over a tough Wizards’ team.
We’ve seen not-so-great games from them a number of times, but their level of execution seems to be much higher than anyone else in this league, which sometimes is hard to comprehend who such a gap has developed over one and a half seasons.
