Watch 20 Leaked Super Bowl Commercials Before the Big Game
Some people watch the Super Bowl for the football, and others watch it for the halftime show and the commercials (me). “That doesn’t mean television, it just means instead of selling you an iPhone or a sweater, we’re going to talk more about eBay and the brand”. So the question is, will the ad always achieve the goals of the advertiser, or will the ad agency make something that looks unbelievable, but is too subtle in its branding or objective?
Doritos is introducing a new, social media-focused contest during this year’s Super Bowl, as it bids adieu to its long-running, phenomenally successful “Crash the Super Bowl” amateur ad-creation contest.
Expect to see a 30 second spot from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Jason Bourne will also be set to make an appearance at Super Bowl 50. He adds that as many 50 percent of viewers are watching the game for the ads, not to see who wins. The single biggest reason why brands pay a premium fees for a Super Bowl spot is reach. “There are people I know who canceled their GoDaddy accounts because of how they advertise during the Super Bowl”.
Nancy Weaver, adjunct professor in the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, said merely being able to display one’s advertisement acumen at the Super Bowl is impressive.
But before you get upset at men everywhere, it’s worth mentioning that Peter Corsairs, the Australian filmmaker responsible for the 30-second spot, was inspired by the anticipation of meeting his son Freddy.
“But then companies realized that people were talking about ads even before the event, and if they were able to get attention before the event, then they could really top the rankings on the day of the event itself”.
Nobody wants another Nationwide commercial from previous year. In 2011, the same ad buy would have cost an advertiser $3.5 million. I’m not sure any of you mentioned what the kids in this commercial did but I wonder how many of their thoughts actually materialized?
“So opposed to in the past when we were looking at during the game what’s the most popular ad, we’re now looking at before, during, and after the game”, said Lewis.
Anheuser-Busch, traditionally the biggest Super Bowl advertiser, has tapped Helen Mirren to stringently call out drunken drivers for being “pillocks” (British slang for idiots). But how has a sports game come to be dominated by its ads?
