Terrell Owens Snubbed From the Hall of Fame
He was on the ballot for the first time, and it appears he will be on it for a second time in 2017.
Despite the fact that the Denver Broncos will be playing in their eighth Super Bowl Sunday night, an NFL record, they continue to receive little respect from the league’s Hall of Fame voting committee.
Lynch won’t have to wait that long, but he and fellow Broncos safety Steve Atwater may need some in-room politicking to get in this year. There is also strong sentiment for pass rusher Kevin Greene, a five-time finalist whose 160 career sacks ranks No. 3 all time – behind only Bruce Smith and Reggie White.
Brett Favre, Marvin Harrison, and Tony Dungy headline the next group of players headed to the hall.
At the end of ESPN’s segment with Owens, the 42-year-old joked that he technically hasn’t retired from football and with the Rams coming to Los Angeles, he said.
Davis was just getting warmed up.
He was named to nine Pro Bowls including all four seasons he played with the Broncos.
“But if you think about a number of guys that are in [the Hall of Fame], some of those guys have those off-the-field issues – and even some of the guys that got inducted [this year] – there were some issues there”.
Atwater was a Pro Bowler eight consecutive seasons for the Broncos.
It clearly cost him a shot at Canton in his first time up for the Hall.
But none of that is criteria for electing someone to the Hall of Fame.
“Maybe at one point that position was one that wasn’t of great import in football and on defenses, but I think as anyone has seen the position evolve – and that’s where I feel fairly good about being a part of that position changing, because early in football, they were just kind of a last line of defense”.
