Kia Shows Off Entire Super Bowl Commercial Before Big Day
The star’s first Kia commercial comes with a rather memorable monologue featuring mediocrity and beige socks – people wearing them could be nobodies unless they happen to get the chance to team up with the awesome 2016 Kia Optima. According to AdWeek, companies will spend a record $5 million for a TV ad during this year’s game.
The campaign marks Kia’s seventh straight appearance in the Super Bowl, each year focusing on “upbeat” and “fun” advertising. While most people would run if they found Christopher Walken in their closet, this man instead stays to listen to Walken explain, “There are two kinds of people in this world”. Those who are content to blend in… then there are those who expect more.

Kia says the 2016 Optima is improved over the out-going model with a list of options, depending on market, that includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Advanced Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), High Beam Assist (HBA), Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
The ad was devised by David&Goliath, whose chief creative officer Colin Jeffrey, said: “There are a few special moments in one’s career – those times when you find yourself in an interesting place, making something you never thought possible, with someone you never thought you’d meet”. Influential has gone beyond assessing typical metrics (like demographics and social reach) and is now able to analyze unstructured data pulled from an influencers’ social media feeds.
The 60-second advertisement “Walken Closet” will debut during the fourth quarter. “We are never afraid to challenge conventional thinking and go our own way, and our #AddPizzazz efforts are the latest example of what makes Kia, and the Optima, stand out”.
