Sneak peek into Super Bowl 50 preparations at Levi’s Stadium
As many as 60 federal, state and local agencies are involved in Super Bowl security, officials estimated.
After a one-year layover the NFL brings the Super Bowl back to an outdoor, open-roof stadium and the league should be thankful as weather conditions are unlikely to effect the championship game’s outcome.
Fans are gearing up for the big game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. So while one team is hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, the fans in attendance can hoist their gold-flaked hot dogs.
And if you’re lucky enough to be in the Bay Area, or even at the big game itself, it can be tough to know where to go for what event.
The Super Bowl is always a high-level security event regardless of the city, but since Levi’s Stadium is housed in an area where a high-tech surveillance infrastructure exists, law enforcement will be working with new technology, such as data collection programs, that provides insight to activities around the area by integrating video feeds with agency cell phone and radio communications.
Jeh Johnson said he has worked closely with his French counterparts to apply lessons from the Paris attack, which left 130 dead, to offer improved security locally.
“Our system has never had any significant failures during big events, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that I haven’t jinxed us by saying that”, he said.
In what is likely to be the most highly guarded sporting event in history, hundreds of law enforcement officers are moving towards the Santa Clara area.
It will come as no surprise that drones are on the contraband list for the Super Bowl.
In particular, officials say they are concerned with “lone wolf” attackers who are not directed by terror networks but are inspired by their rhetoric. DOE officials are monitoring the flights from the FBI’s command center. Security officials can be seen watching the area from atop nearby buildings.
“We are confident we are going to have a safe and secure Super Bowl”, he said. But they’re not the only tech companies that will have a presence at the game.
“We absolutely need the public’s assistance”, said David Johnson of the FBI’s San Francisco office.
