Terry keen to prolong Chelsea stay
Chelsea have looked a stronger unit since Hiddink took charge back in December, and Terry has been an influential figure in that time, but his future remains up in the air for now. The club’s the most important thing, there’s no communication between myself and the club at the minute.
Asked whether he would welcome a resumption of talks, Terry said: “I made it very clear – I wanted to stay”.
The former England skipper dropped a bombshell after last Sunday’s 5-1 win at second-Tier Milton Keyens Dons in the FA Cup by revealing he would leave Chelsea in the summer after the club decided not to renew his contract.
Chelsea insisted channels of communication would remain open and Terry could yet be offered a 19th season at the club, with the incoming manager likely to be given a say. “So we’re not and he’s not focusing on this issue”.
Terry is expected to get a hero’s welcome at Stamford Bridge today, the first home game since he announced he’d be off…so it’s a bit odd that there is no mention of this news in his captain’s programme notes.
“Terry also reserved praise for the club’s fans, saying: “(The atmosphere was) incredible, they’re the best fans in the world.
“What they’ve done and given for me as a young 14 and 17-year-old boy… He’s put his hands up…they’re hard ones for the referee, inside the box it’s going in, it’s got to be a penalty for me”. I’ve said what I had to say and that is how it was.
“I can’t think of one reason why you wouldn’t want him here”.
“I’m a big fan of John Terry’s”, he told talkSPORT.
