A couple inches of snow likely Monday night and Tuesday
The advisory means periods of snow and possibly sleet which could make travel conditions hazardous.
The most recent winter weather message was issued at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, and is calling for a “long duration snowfall expected Monday into Tuesday”, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday’s high dips to 31 and the mercury is expected to dip below 20 degrees at night. Highs will be in the low 30s but at night temperatures will take a sharp drop into the upper teens.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Suffolk County beginning early Monday morning, with the South Fork expected to get between 6 to 8 inches of snow by the end of the day. Most of the snow should fall overnight, and warmer temperatures on Tuesday will limit higher amounts of snow we could see with this storm. Light snow and areas of blowing snow are expected to begin late Sunday afternoon, and wind gusts could reach 45 miles per hour, the weather service reported.
But exactly how much snow remained in question. The storm should pass by noon Monday, the weather service said.
The clouds hang around on Tuesday when highs will be in the mid-30s and lows again will be in the mid-20s.
