CBS uses Super Bowl to announce ‘The Good Wife’ is ending
So how will attorney Alicia Florrick’s (Margulies) journey wrap up?
CBS used a Super Bowl promo to announce the end of its beloved drama “The Good Wife”.
CBS boasted about revealing the cancellation “in dramatic fashion with a special promotional spot broadcast during Super Bowl 50 touting the show’s final nine episodes”. The show’s executive producers and co-creators Robert and Michelle King said, “We’re looking forward to using this seventh season to bring Alicia’s story to its natural conclusion”.
Speculation surrounding the future of The Good Wife has been rife for weeks now, with a lot of rumours stating that the new season will be its last.
Margulies, who recently dropped a big hint that the show was likely ending by joking that she was soon to be unemployed, stated: “Being a part of The Good Wife has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career”. “We are forever grateful to our fans, cast and crew and CBS”.
Margulies earned Emmy Awards in 2014 and 2011 for her work on the series. It co-stars Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Alan Cumming, Chris Noth, Cush Jumbo, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Zach Grenier. Josh Charles, who played Will Gardner, left in a shower of bullets in season 5.
Makenzie Vega, Graham Phillips, Mary Beth Peil, Stockard Channing, Michael J. Fox, Mamie Gummer, Gary Cole, Christopher McDonald, David Hyde Pierce, Oliver Platt and Jeffrey Tambor are just a few of the notable recurring cast members. Archie Panjabi won for Supporting Actress, Julianna Margulies won twice for Lead Actress and it also won Guest Actress awards for Martha Plimpton and Carrie Preston. Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife has been praised for its inventive storytelling, both in its weekly cases and in its narrative leaps. In January at CBS’ Television Critics Association presentation, Geller had not yet confirmed whether there would be another season of the series. Finally, creators Robert and Michelle King recently announced their departure after the current season.
